The 8" double pointed needles are perfect to work in the round for projects like socks, hats, or sleeves if you knitting them as one piece.
These are my favorite needles -- they are the Ferrari of needles! They are light, smooth and flexible while very strong. I find that I have a better control of the work and speed when using these needles. They have a smooth electroplated brass tips that doesn’t split the yarn and helps make for an easier transfer of stitches from one needle to the other. The carbon fiber shaft lets the stitches move smoothly along the needle, but not as fast as with other metal needles so I never (well almost never) drop a stitch with them.
If you have decided that knitting is something you want to do on a regular basis I recommend investing in a circular interchangeable set that would work for almost all types of projects.
